Dementia: safety & caregiver support

Understand your condition · Build safer routines

Understand & manage

  • Dementia can affect memory, judgment, communication, and everyday tasks. A clinical evaluation can identify causes and support needs.
  • Create consistent routines. Review cooking, medicines, finances, driving, and home hazards with a trusted caregiver. Keep emergency contacts and identification available.
  • Plan for wandering: use safe supervision and appropriate alerts without blocking emergency exits. If a person is missing, seek emergency help promptly. Caregivers also need support and respite.
  • VNG evaluates cognitive changes and coordinates appropriate laboratory tests or imaging, with a plan that includes the patient and caregivers.

When to get medical help

Sudden confusion is not simply normal dementia progression. Seek urgent assessment. Call 911 for new stroke signs, serious injury, immediate danger, or a missing vulnerable person.
